Documentary film 'Legend of the Loom' coming to Dhaka

'Legend of the Loom' a documentary film by Drik (Bengal Muslin), has been chosen for the Dhaka International Film Festival, scheduled to begin on January 12, 2018. It will also be a part of Dhaka Art Summit 2018 and is scheduled for screening on February 5, 2018.

The 42-minute-long documentary covers the full story of muslin, the legendary cloth and covers the first foreigners to come to East Bengal in search of its fine textiles. It balances information gathered from weavers, farmers, experts and artisans with display techniques, which have made the story come alive.

The film was shown at the Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival on December 10, 2017 where it was awarded the Certificate of Excellence. It was also screened at the India International Centre, Delhi. The film also has been selected for the 'Jaipur International Film Festival - JIFF 2018'. It was picked from 1677 applications received from 79 countries and is the only Bangladeshi film being shown at the festival.

The film is the result of a joint partnership with Aarong and the Ministry of Culture. Researched by Saiful Islam, it is produced by Drik (Bengal Muslin), directed by T9fx and narrated by Mita Rahman.
