A rape victim in Hatibandha upazila has stopped going to school as the two alleged rapists  are yet to be arrested four and a half months after the incident.

The culprits are Bayezid Islam, 28, son of Azizul Islam, and Rion Islam, 18, son of Kalam Miah of Doikhiwa Guchchhogram village.

Investigation Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Noor Alam said Bayezid and Rion took the girl on May 31 to a place about two kilometres from her house and raped her.

“Locals rescued the girl, a students of Class VI, but the rapists managed to flee. The victim was admitted to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex and referred to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital on June 1, where she was under treatment till June 5,” the IO said yesterday, adding that he will submit the charge sheet to the court within a week.

“The rapists fled from their homes after the incident and police are trying to arrest them,” he added.

“I was pressured several times by the rapists' men and even by the local union parishad member and chairman, to take Tk 1lakh to withdraw the case, but I refused,” victim's father alleged. His family is living in fear as the rapists are yet to be arrested, he said.

“We tried to send our daughter to school after the incident, but she refuses, saying that it is a great shame for her,” the victim's mother said.
