Seven shot by criminals in Cox’s Bazar

At least seven persons, including children, were injured when armed miscreants shot them at Jahpua village under Kalarmar Chhara union in Moheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar yesterday.

The condition of three injured is critical. They have been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said local Union Parishad Chairman Osman Bin Tarek Sharif.

Sub-inspector Shaon Das of Moheshkhali Police Station said an armed gang of miscreants attacked the house of Ehteshamul Haque of Dhapua village demanding extortion money. At one point, they started firing at the people.

The official claimed that the miscreants are from Dakkhin Sardarghona village.  

SI Shaon Das alleged that the attackers are members of a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader who is an accused in 17 cases including 10 murder cases.

The family members are Ehteshamul Haque, 46, Mohammad Sarwar, 28, Mofizur Rahman, 35, Dilwara Begum, 25, Tofa Moni, 5, and Sabuj, 27.

On information, police rushed to the spot. Sensing their presence, the miscreants fled, said the SI. Police are conducting drives to arrest them, he added.
