Road accident kills three of a family in Sylhet

Three members of a family, including a child, were killed in a road accident as the bus they were on hit a parked truck on Sylhet-Tamabil Highway in Darbast area of Jaintiapur upazila in Sylhet yesterday.

The deceased are Shukla Tarafder, 32, her 18-month-old daughter Ripta, and Shukla’s mother Josna Tarafder, 50.

Shukla used to be a credit officer of Brac at Radhanagar union branch under the upazila. She was heading back to work from her village home at Sreemangal, said family members.

Six others were also injured during the incident that took place around 7:00pm. They were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The injured are in critical conditions, said doctors at the hospital.

The six are Milon Acharjee, his wife Shipra Acharjee, Habibur Rahman, Selim Ahmed, Abdul Ahad and Kibria.

Quoting witnesses, Sub-inspector Mashuk Ahmed, in-charge of Tamabil Highway Police Outpost, said a truck, loaded with utility poles, was parked in front of Palli Bidyut Samity office when the Tamabil-bound bus hit the truck from behind.

The three family members died on the spot, he added.
