Missing girl found dead near house

A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was found dead yesterday near her house in Chittagong city, a day after she went missing from the staircase.

Sohagi Akter Bibi Sumaiya, adopted daughter of rickshaw garage owner Md Yusuf of Bhola, was found dead some 20 yards away from her house in Karimullah Haji Colony of Kunjachaya.

“The body bore scratch marks as well as injury marks around eyes, lips, and left cheek which indicate that she was sexually abused before murder,” said Assistant Commissioner (Panchlaish) SM Mobasshar Hossain of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.

“However, it [cause of death] will be clear after autopsy,” he added.

Victim's aunt Ferdous Akter said Sumaiya's grandfather Salauddin first spotted the body when he went to offer Fazr prayers. They later informed the police.

In May, Yusuf's one-and-a-half-year-old nephew died mysteriously falling into an open tank beside the same building. The family, however, did not inform police of the incident at that time.

On July 20, a two-month-old boy was stolen from the same building, said police.
