As an exclusive award of the Locarno Festival, the prestigious “Pardo d'onore (Leopard of Honor)” is given to exemplary film directors who not only embody passion in the world of filmmamking, but has produced masterpieces and has thoroughly contributed to the development of the festival. This year, at the Locarno Festival's 70th iteration, the “Pardo d'onore” is being given to the American director, producer and screenwriter Todd Haynes. Haynes has quite the amount of awards and nominations in his name, and his latest film Wonderstruck is set to be screened in this year's Locarno Festival. Another of Haynes' film, Poison, was his debut feature in Locarno back in 1991, and is also set to be screened this year. Haynes is known for focusing in violent moral themes, and his movies potray issues regarding reality in a vivid manner.
