Amongst all the controversies about Kangana Ranaut's relationship with Hrithik Roshan and Aditya Pancholi, the much talked-about Simran was released. Although Kangana was criticized for using the details of her personal life to create controversies in promoting the film, Simran ended up faring well at the box office until now. The film has beat out Farhan Akhtar's Lucknow Central on the opening day with a collection of Rs.10.56 Crore and has also collected more over the weekend. However, given that it is a Rs.30 Crore film, it isn't safe to call it a hit yet. 2017 truly is a dull year for the box office, as high budget films with the Khans (like Raees and Tubelight) failed to meet their expectations. If 2017 has proved anything, it is that the Indian audience is becoming smarter with better taste in films. Recycling the same old Bollywood masala films with a Khan in it isn't enough to impress them anymore.
