Summertime Eid by Chondona R Dewan

What does summer mean to you? Is it the flurry of a swarm of butterflies, the scorching sun's rays gleaming on the beach, the sparkling deep blue sea, subtle aroma of blooming flowers filling up the nostrils, fuzzy white clouds, and more?

It must be; because summer means all of these and so much more to every single one of us. So many romantic poets have penned down the picturesque representation of summer.

Musicians have developed zillions of starry-eyed tunes dedicated to the king of seasons; painters have composed splitting images of the breath-taking views.

Does that leave out fashion designers? Not at all! Because designers consider summer as the prime season for crafting the most beautiful silhouettes and patterns, almost energised by the scenic elegance of the cosmos -- a selection that is worthy of both praise and envy!

And what happens when Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most celebrated religious holidays, coincides with this beautiful season by chance?

Our very own celebrated designer Chondona R Dewan, a renowned name in Dhaka's fashion scene, shows us with her ensemble how designers are gratified when Eid coincides with the most prolific season of the year.

The collection includes everything from stylish fusion Moroccan kaftans, chic kurtis and kameezes to stunning summer saris.

The mere thought of kaftans presumably transports most of us to the land of the mystical with snake charmers and genie lamps.

If that was not enough, the designer's utterly comfortable and equally stylish kaftans or loose-fit kurtis will definitely be able to provide that unique Mediterranean look that you were always willing to experiment with.

The kameezes are no different, with sleeveless pieces and ultra-loose palazzo pants, the combination looks comfortable and is a perfect ensemble for the summer.

Sometimes our fascination with comfort makes us settle for the less glamorous; but Chondona R Dewan re-establishes the fact that summer wear can be both stunning and breezy.

Her gorgeous saris in majestic colours like magenta and tiffany blue transform the wearer to an elegant summer princess, almost immediately, as if from an adapted version of the Shakespearean play.

The equally beautiful patchwork saris and kurtis in turquoise, white, beige, burnt umber, Persian green and  the like will definitely make you fall in love with subtle sophistication.

In all her designs, the maestro kept the styles smart, understated and chic, whereby the wearer could don the creation for any day time occasion including garden parties and friendly congregations.

We are usually accustomed to summer colours like white, pastels and corals. Besides all these, Chondon's has a steadfast experimental collection with all the bright hues existing on the colour spectrum.

Sometimes, the colour selection might come as a surprise considering the season, but that's where the skill of an artiste comes in. As a competent designer, she manages to pull off the bright colours wonderfully with a combination of simplified modern cuts and a chic look. The designer recommends the brighter colours for gorgeous night parties during the season.

Chondona R Dewan's summer collection was created keeping Eid-ul-Fitr in mind.

The collection is superbly in context and will be excellent both as day and night wear on the auspicious day.

Having said all that, everyone is encouraged to join in the shopping spree and visit her couture store in Gulshan 1, to get a first hand look at the striking summer collection.

Happy Shopping Everyone!
