The Blanc Factor

Monsoon in Dhaka has become rather grim; even when there's a hint of amusement in the air in the name of Eid. Gone are the days of wasting hours shopping for favourite get-together ensembles, endless gossip over phone discussing cockeyed peers, lazy afternoon slumbers and Igloo lollies.

The ever-present heat wave and the non-stop downpour makes city dwelling hellish, killing the romance once and for all.

Amidst this craziness, life gives us small, fleeting moments of magic. When the mercury level refuses to budge or the streets are clogged with rainwater your heart still yearns for that sparkle — a simple white kurti is all you need to revive your inner-self.

The fresh white kurti with intricate floral embroidery you wore on your first date will recreate the same excitement of first flush of youth minus the nervousness in this unforgiving weather. Or that crisp white button-down that always made you look and feel sophisticated and polished among your lesser, scruffier friends will inject a dose of elegance to your mundane work outfit when paired with a pair of beige tailored pants.

Those pretty floral white blouses you wore as a college student are just as relevant today for hangout sessions with friends or a movie date. A long white cotton skirt with a blouson is perfect for casual times when you want to channel your inner flower child in a boho-chic ensemble.  Evening gatherings hold so much promise. A white French chiffon will bring out your inner diva — the luscious, elegant one that everyone wants to know and be friends with. Bring everyone in your spell in a milky white Jamdani or a beautifully embroidered Muslin number. French lace is on a league of its own, and looks stunning in shades of white.

In a sea of bold, bright colours, set yourself apart by choosing to go blanc and enjoy the stir you would create!

The sartorial world is constantly reinventing its ways but there is something about a classic white ensemble that will never go out of style. Ditch the bright hues and embrace the purity of white. Believe you me you will not regret it!
