War trial: Capt Shahidullah gets bail

A war tribunal today granted bail to Mohammad Shahidullah, alias Captain Shahidullah, in connection to a war crimes case of 1971.

The conditional bail would require Capt Shahidullah to submit his passport to the tribunal and bar him and his family from contacting the media.

Also, they would not be allowed to influence the potential prosecution witnesses.

International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam granted the bail following a plea moved on behalf of the accused citing health grounds.

Before granting bail, the tribunal took the charges brought against him into cognisance and fixed December 11 as the date for charge hearing.

Captain Shahidullah was a former Bangali army official who allegedly worked for the Pakistan army and committed crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
