'Robber' killed in Jessore gunfight

An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with his rivals at Nangarpur in Jessore early yesterday, claimed police.

The identity of the deceased, aged about 55, could not be known immediately, said Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Jessore Sadar Police Station.

Informed that a gunfight took place between two groups of robbers in the area a police team rushed to the spot around 2:30am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers fled the scene, leaving one of their cohorts seriously injured.

He was rushed to Jessore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said the OC.

They also recovered a shutter gun and one bullet from the spot, he said.
