3 workers die after having toxic chemical in Rajshahi

Three construction workers died and nine others fell sick after having toxic chemical in Rajshahi city today.

The deceased are Bokul, 35, Tohijul, 28, and Dulal, 22, residents of Chabbisnagar village in Godagari upazila.

The victims used to work in an under-construction storehouse of “Team pharmaceutical Limited” in Sopura BSCIC industrial area of the city, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

Quoting family members, Hipjur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Godagari Police Station, said, the workers had stolen a bottle of chemical from the factory mistakenly thinking liquor on Tuesday night.

“Immediately after having chemical, they fell sick,” the OC said.

Two of them -- Bokul and Tohijul -- died at their houses this morning while Dulal succumbed at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital around 4:00pm, police said.

Six of them have been undergoing treatment at the hospital, OC Munshi said adding that the rest three took primary treatment from hospital.
