President Abdul Hamid yesterday asked the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) authorities to give priority to medical research alongside providing health care services to patients.
He made the call when an eight-member BSMMU delegation, led by its Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, met him at Bangabhaban, said a press release of the president's office.
Mentioning that physicians have a huge social responsibility, the President said they must be aware of the latest technology as the medical sector is being modernised rapidly.
Describing BSMMU as a specialised institution, he called upon the authorities to take steps to make common people aware of different diseases and ensure their treatment.
Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan apprised the president of the overall BSMMU activities, saying the medical university gives health care services to around 8,000 outpatients every day.
He also invited the president to join the third convocation of the university.
