Thirteen families have applied so far for adopting a one-day-old baby girl who was rescued from beside a road at Khilgaon in Dhaka on October 2.
“A total of 12-13 families showed interest in adopting the baby girl,” Moshiure Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khilgaon Police Station, told The Daily Star.
“We will forward the applications to the court,” the OC said.
The baby was admitted at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as she was suffering from cold on that day she was found.
“She is yet to recover fully,” said Prof Manisha Banerjee, in-charge of the NICU at the DMCH.
Once the baby recovers they will forward the application for court proceedings, the OC said.
The law enforcers are still trying to find out the woman, wearing burqa (veil), who was spotted by the locals while leaving the infant in a paper-made shopping bag beside a road near a five-storey building in Chowdhury Para area of Khilgaon, OC Moshiure added.
