No end to bloodspill on Roads

Accidents claim ten lives

With reckless driving, operation of unfit vehicles and violation of traffic rules continuing, the country witnessed seven road accidents in different districts, killing 10 people and injuring 20 others in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Jhenidah, two bank officials were killed and nine others injured as a pickup hit a three-wheeler in Panchmile Bus Stand area in Sadar upazila yesterday, said police.

Abdul Malek, 35, was a manager of Hatgopalpur Branch of Shahjalal Islami Bank while Jubayer Alam, 30, assistant executive officer.

In Faridpur, a businessman was killed and a biker injured as his motorcycle hit the former beside Sadarpur-Piajkhali road in Charkumardia area of Sadarpur upazila yesterday.

The deceased is Saddam Munshi, 28, son of Mosaddek Munshi of Charkumardia village of the upazila.

Locals said the motorcyclist, Shawon Khan, 22, lost his control over the vehicle.

In Joypurhat, a man died after a bus hit an easy bike carrying him on Joypurhat-Bogra highway near Baniapara Police Box in Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening.

Ramzan Ali, 22, son of Khater Ali, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.

In Tangail, two people were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a goods-laden truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila yesterday.

The deceased -- Palash, 18, son of Nuruzzaman of Jogornagar village in Naogaon; and Gopal, 25, son of Amal of Mohobbatpur village in Joypurhat -- were in the bus.

The injured travelling in both the vehicles were taken to a nearby health complex.

In Sirajganj, two people were killed and three others injured as two trucks collided head-on at Simanto Bazar point on Bangabandhu bridge link road early yesterday.

Nazrul Islam, 45, driver of the truck, is one of the deceased. The identity of another deceased could not be known immediately.

In Madaripur, a police official was killed and a constable injured as a bus hit their motorbike on Dhaka-Barisal highway in Alomdostar area yesterday.

Sub-inspector Monir Hasan, 30, of Rajoir Police Station died on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where constable Yousuf, 45, was admitted.

In Patuakhali, a man was killed after he had been sandwiched between two buses when one of the vehicle was getting on a ferry at Lebukhali ghat on Patuakhali-Barisal road in Dumki upazila yesterday.

Sekandar Ali Akon, 60, was a retired police official, said Dumki police.
