A solo art exhibition titled “Smoron '71” (Remembrance: 1971) by artist Shah Mainul Islam Shilpu has begun at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, in the capital. The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held recently, says a press release.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker, Bangladesh National Parliament, graced the occasion as chief guest. Artist Chandra Shekhar Dey, art critic Moinuddin Khaled and Razob Ali, head of programme, SKS Foundation attended the programme as special guests.
There are around 35 artworks on display at exhibition. The artist has used pen and ink as media for depicting the artworks.
Shilpu's pen-and-ink drawings at the exhibition depict the tumultuous times of 1971 as well as its after-effects. The artist believes his efforts will be successful if his artworks remind observers about our resolve in the face of tribulations, bloodshed, oppression, and inhumanity; how we strove to attain our freedom in 1971; or how can we protect our independence.
The exhibition will be open to all till March 14 at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka. The exhibits can be viewed from Monday to Thursday from 3 pm to 9pm and on Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to12noon and 5pm to 8pm.
